Spring clean your website

This week at the website support clinic, we received a visit from a member of staff looking for advice on how to prepare her website for the upcoming migration to EdWeb. As so often happens, other work had got in the way and the site was in need of a bit of attention. The site contained a large number of outdated news articles as well as pages that were no longer being used. We helped her to identify the pages with the most visitors and the pages that were no longer necessary.

Inline links – challenging to the reader and the writer

We don’t advocate inline links on our University website. In fact, the current corporate content management system (CMS) Polopoly, won’t allow them. At present, the new CMS EdWeb will but this may change in future. I thought it was a good point to go over why we’ve set the policy, and clarify a few things for fans of inline links.

Developing digital strategy with Student Systems

I’m currently working with the Student Systems team to help them prepare for the development of  a new website. Together we’re taking stock of what they’re trying to achieve as a business, where the website is best placed to support this, and how their systems and communications channels work together.
