Web Publishers’ Community – May update

We had a packed agenda at this month’s WPC session with presentations about EdWeb Group Administrators, two new content types for EdWeb, a report from Google Analytics training, the results of the recent EdWeb feature prioritisation survey and a guide to applying EdGEL to your web apps and blogs.

EdWeb Group Administrators – Duncan MacGruer

We have added a new type of user to EdWeb, the Group Administrator, who has extra rights and powers. This is aimed at lead publishers.

In EdWeb, a ‘Group’ is the permissions area created by a Homepage.

Being a Group Administrator allows you to monitor and set your own group permissions and add and remove trained users to the system. It also allows you to delete outdated assets, which has previously not been possible.

We provide clear instructions on the EdWeb wiki for the new functions.

Duncan also gave us a report from a Google Analytics Accelerator course which he attended recently.

His slides are available on the wiki page for this month’s meeting.

Edweb development update – Bruce Darby

Bruce introduced the new content types Profile pages and Profile overview pages, which will be deployed next week.

The new Profile content type is a profile asset that is not tied to a particular area of the University site. Anyone with EASE access can edit their own profile, even if they not registered as an EdWeb user.

The Profile overview content type gives a really quick way of presenting lists of profiles and contact information.

EdWeb prioritisation survey – Bruce Darby

Bruce also talked about the results from the EdWeb feature prioritisation survey which we recently have been asking EdWeb CMS users and other colleagues with an interest in the system to complete.

From a list of 27 options, 8 items consistently made their way to the top, including content removal, social media integration and event publishing.

How to ‘GEL’ it properly – Callum Kerr
