Gelling widgets – EdGEL4 is coming!

This is an overview of my work transforming existing the non-GEL UWP Widgets page into beautiful EdGEL4. I would like to share my experience of the technical challenges I have encountered. This post explains in simple examples what EdGEL actually is and may serve as a technical guide for those of you who plan to enhance your website with EdGEL.

An event to promote the University

Our latest development brings dynamic lists and calendar views of events to our Content Management System EdWeb. It’s one of a number of steps being taken to help promote what’s on around the University, but also as a way of showcasing the excellent quality and diversity of events to both prospective staff and students around the world.

You said this. We did that. Prioritising development in EdWeb

In May 2016 we launched a survey to invite participation from everyone who uses EdWeb CMS, or plays a part in the management of websites delivered through EdWeb. Participants had 5 votes to pick functionality that was most important or critical to them. We used the results to help us prioritise the development work for EdWeb.

EdGEL before EdWeb… a social media story

The UWP Tech Team recently added the first release of Social Media Sharing functionality to the EdWeb Content Management System. This allows any page on the University website to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and email. As this is the first release of this new functionality, I would like to tell you how we implemented this solution.

Get a site health check with Snapshot – the new site analysis tool

Tags:

Snapshot is an audit tool that allows EdWeb editors and site managers to monitor and evaluate some key areas of their EdWeb site. Entering a URL will bring back an overview of the site, the site structure, how long ago the pages were edited and whether the site potentially uses any data gathering techniques that could be viewed as privacy invasive.

My valuable internship experience with the Website Programme

I am Patrick Chen and I study BSc Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh. I just finished my 12-week intern with the University Website Programme (UWP) Team. I feel that I have gained many technical skills as well as valuable experiences through the internship.
